What is pMD Secure Messaging?
HIPAA regulations indicate that it is illegal to use SMS text messaging or unencrypted email to exchange sensitive patient information. The government is taking this seriously; fines can reach up to $50,000 per violation. pMD provides the HIPAA compliant solution to secure text messaging healthcare providers and staff need to send and receive sensitive patient information securely and in real-time. What are the requirements to use pMD Secure Text Messaging?
pMD Secure Messaging is available through the pMD website, iOS devices, and Android phones. Users must have pMD version 8.8 or higher on their mobile device, and have push notifications enabled. Contact information, including cell phone numbers, must be up to date for all existing users.

How do I get access if I don't already have a username?
Users with pMD Supervisor accounts can create new accounts for their group. Messaging-Only users can send and receive messages but do not have access to charge capture functionality or the group’s clinical data.

Who can I message with?
You can message with any user in your group, including providers and staff. You also have the ability to message physicians on your group’s referral list who are also pMD messaging users. pMD users can also invite other people to pMD Secure Messaging on the fly directly from the mobile app, at no additional cost to you or the recipients.

Can pMD send me a reminder if I haven’t read a message?
Yes! pMD Secure Messaging has an automated reminder system that can send an SMS text and voice call if you haven’t read a message after a period of time (typically 30 minutes). Contact pMD Support to change the timing of your SMS text or voice call reminders. Please note that if you do not have the app installed on a mobile device, pMD will send an SMS text immediately to let you know about new messages.

Can I customize pMD notification tones?
You can select a distinct sound from a set of message notification tones. Go to the "Settings" button on the Messages screen to choose your sound (the Goat is our favorite!).

How can I tell if someone has read my message?
You can see whether or not your most recent message has been read by the recipient. Look for the “Read” stamp underneath your last message bubble.
