This week, Apple saw a .12 percent gain of the mobile device pie, snapping a two week losing streak to Android. With less that one week until Apple's highly anticipated announcement of the iPhone 6 on Sept. 9, it's time to dig even deeper into our wealth of mobile device data to predict how the new iPhone will shake up the mobile device breakdown among pMD's health care providers.

The iPhone 6 will give Apple a huge win over Android in the battle for the mobile market share in health care (rumor has it Apple will unveil not one, not two, but THREE different iPhone 6 sizes!), and we should start to see Apple take back even more of the device pie. We'll also see an inevitable cannibalism of existing iPhone devices as providers abandon their antique versions to get a hold of the iPhone 6. We've put together a colorful chart that depicts which iPhone devices our providers are currently using so we'll be able to gauge just how much the iPhone 6 disrupts the current marketshare.

Apple lost a total of .07 percent this week, making this two weeks in a row now that Apple has lost share to Android. But we don't expect this drop to last for very long! In anticipation of the iPhone 6 announcement on Sept. 9, we took a look at last four months of the iOS-Android wars among our own health care providers:

The Android mobile device community in pMD is up .09 percent this week. This increase comes on the heels of OpenSignal's latest fragmentation report released Wednesday, identifying 18,796 unique Android devices!

This week Apple took back .04 percent of the mobile device pie from Android. The rumors are flying around the iPhone 6, with more and more articles adding credibility to those rumors. With more screen real estate, a more durable display, and an improved camera, it's no surprise that Apple is ahead this week.

Android gained a solid 0.10 percent of the mobile devices from our health care providers this past week. Coincidentally, the release date of Apple's highly anticipated iPhone 6 was announced this week for Sept. 9.

Are health care providers holding out for Sept. 9 to get their hands on an iPhone 6?

Android took away a slim .02 percent of the mobile device pie this week. Such a small net change leaves room for speculation - will Android continue this trend into next week, or will Apple defend its dominance in mobile health care?

It's no surprise that Apple went up this week by 0.05 percent in light of their postive Q3 earnings report Wednesday. I predict we'll see Apple continue to dominate the mobile device scene among health care providers this year, especially with the iPhone 6 on the horizon.

Today is a special day, a marvelous day, a miraculous day… Well, it is if you enjoy numbers, charts, and everything about Apple. July 22 marks the end of Apple's third quarter, meaning that it's time for their much anticipated Q3 Earnings Report.

As a mobile charge capture company, we have to stay informed on the latest smartphone developments and their manufacturers. Our very own Señor Goat has been reporting on pMD’s mobile market share every Friday, and it’s our quarterly opportunity to see how our biggest slice of the pie is doing. Let's take a look at pMD's mobile device breakdown between Apple’s last earnings call in April and today. Perhaps we may have a correlation between Apple’s numbers and pMD’s.

Although, before we get to the numbers, which I know you're super anxious to find out, let’s consider some rumors that have been flying around Apple lately. First off, it’s expected that the iPhone 6 will take the stage in September of this year, with a larger screen, new form factor, and a variety of new functionality. Also expected is the iWatch, possibly announced within the coming months. Currently, the iWatch is a rather mysterious and elusive device, but it could prove to be a game changer in the mobile sphere.

Now to the numbers from today:

Looking at the charts, Android took away 0.3 percent from iOS market share among doctors and other health care providers using pMD. Given these numbers, the Q3 story looks uncertain for Apple. But let’s look at this from another angle: considering that the market is expecting Apple to lose market share, our numbers show that Apple is, in fact, still holding steady. So, given our logic, this should indicate that we’ll see an upside surprise during Apple’s earnings report. Will our numbers correlate with Apple? We’ll find out at 2 p.m. PDT.
This week Android ate up 0.07 percent of the mobile device pie among our health care providers. Considering the Galaxy S5's torture-proof capabilities, Android is proving it's here to stay!
